Whatever you do please don’t call Fresh Meat 007 a minimal record! We here at FM are longing for the day minimal as a popularized style goes the way of speed garage. On this EP there are two jack tracks, one fully live future disco jam-a-thon and a quirky little exercise in freestyle musicianship. Included in between the beats and melodies are real human voices talking about life and death; in here you will also find genuine expression and improvisation.

Both ‘Scarlett’ tracks are mid-tempo, warm and deadly. The famed ARP Odyssey is caressed and twisted into beats, sounds, bass and musical notes. Analog sounds drip from Scarlett’s every pore as her groove first flows with measured insistence then comes thundering down. The vibe is deep and takes its time to develop but once it peaks watch your bass bins! The track works wonders but we recommend you don’t take the vocals too seriously….

“She Turns Red” was written in 2007 with its mind clearly in the 21st century but its heart is as old as the Chroma Polaris that plays its lead melody. The track comes in two versions, the main difference being the provocative vocalizations and sounds in the center of the X-rated mix. Live percussion stomps and rattles throughout both versions while several melodies and a heavy bass line keep pinned together a groove that always feels about to spill over. The track throws together disco, house, techno and a penchant for good porno.

Last up is the fun and silly “This is Real Life” where the producer takes pleasure in an impromptu solo played on the now retro Nintendo Game Boy with some friends sitting around laughing at him. It’s totally absurd and superficially profound at the same time. Good bleepin’ fun.

The message is you only get one chance; don’t miss Scarlett as she’s red hot!
