Johnny Arthur (United Kingdom) Recently chosen for DJmag's "Gotta be big" feature, Johnny Arthur has a talent that belies his years. At only 23, the young DJ has a technical ability behind the decks that has made his peers sit up and take notice. While his production work has pricked the ears of French don David Duriez.
Resident at his own superb bi-monthly clubnight Chicken Nickers, at The Key, London, Johnny has played alongside Paul Woolford, Switch, Martin Landsky, Ellen Allien and Alex Smoke. But it's his final set of deep, emotive, driving techno that is continuously the highlight of the night. "'Deep filthy sleazoid acid mindfuckery for a battered generation' describes our music policy at Chicken Nickers - which kinda says it all, really," said Johnny.
"Johnny Arthur is one of the best up-and-coming DJs I've heard. Playing a constant thread of resolutely off-its-chonkers music with a leaning towards the unpredictable, he can't go wrong. Good work, young man!" Paul Woolford
"I've listened to lots of young DJs during my time as Editor of DJ Magazine, but Johnny Arthur has something special. A real talent with the potential to go stellar." Lesley Wright
"Johnny Arthur is a wicked DJ and will go a long way. Excellent choice of records, cool order and top mixing. He's also got a great attitude which is very rare these days." Jonathan Lisle
"I've heard him & he's fucking wicked." Quinn (differentGear)
Johnny's first track "Out of It" was released on Whoop! last April, with the follow-up "Redlight" imminent. But it's his "Evil Edna" tune - out on Kill Brique that will invade your brain with its mind-bending hook.
When not DJing at Chicken Nickers, Johnny can be found playing at various venues around London. Find him at Tim Sheridan's new Sunday morning afterparty at Turnmills, Very Very Very Wrong Indeed, with gigs at Ministry of Sound and Ibiza in the pipeline for the summer months.
